Apparently, the podcast—you know, that incredibly versatile medium of conversation/review/interview/etc. that has been sweeping the Internet and consuming our headphones for the past ten-ish years—is as popular as ever. More are created every day, and the audience just keeps on growing. For someone like me, who wants to dive in and join the party but knows little to nothing about podcasts, let alone what to listen to, they’re more intimidating than enjoyable. What’s a virgin podcaster to do?

Thankfully, I’m not alone. My incredibly knowledgeable and podcast-savvy friends have agreed to help me navigate my way through the fun, informative, and wacky world of podcasts. Join me, Olivia, on my listening quest as I learn what’s good, what’s bad, and what I need to know to become a true podcaster.

Episode 1: “The Podcast Podcast”

As part of the inaugural episode of The Virgin Podcaster, I do some digging and report an abridged (very abridged) version of the history of the podcast. Then, with the help of my first guest and friend, Gabs Roman, I learn some basics about the podcast world, and get a crash course in what kinds of podcasts are out there and why people bother to listen to them in the first place.
