It’s been a tough week in the United States, and we could all use a reminder to “be excellent to each other, and party on dudes.” If you’re feeling depressed, just remember that we have Bill S. Preston and Theodore Logan’s utopian future to look forward to.
For the uninitiated, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is a 1989 masterpiece (and yes, I do mean masterpiece—this is one movie from the ’80s that definitely holds up) starring a young Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter who travel through time with the aid of George Carlin and a telephone booth in order to pass a history class and the future of the world as we know it. As an added bonus, it also features Genghis Khan slipping on an ice skating rink, Joan of Arc teaching an aerobics class, and Napoleon eating ice cream dish called a “ziggy piggy.”
Now that I’ve gotten your attention, the rules. Though there are only a few of them, they are sure to get you hammered. The lightweights out there could play with just the first two rules and get a serious buzz.
-Drink every time Bill and Ted travel through time
-Drink every time an adjective is modified with the word “most”
-Drink every time Bill or Ted riffs on an air guitar
-Drink every time Bill and Ted yell “Wyld Stallyns!”
-Drink every time a historical name is mispronounced (including when Billy the Kid is addressed as “Mr. the Kid”)
-Drink every time Bill and Ted’s full names are used: “Bill S. Preston Esq. and Theodore Logan” (Spock, the Rock, Doc Ock, and Hulk Hogan)
-Waterfall when Napoleon goes down the slide at Waterloo
-Finish your drink at their school presentation, when Bill says, “Be excellent to each other, and party on dudes.”
