Everyone on the Minerva staff is here because we love discussing our geeky passions. We bet you’re here because you do too. We’re excited to chat with you about everything from Shakespeare to The Lord of the Rings, and we want to make sure we’re providing a safe, respectful environment for everyone to contribute. In order to do that, we need your help in following a few simple posting guidelines.
- Comments that are hurtful, offensive, or directly attack an individual or group will be deleted. Our goal is to provide a safe space for anyone to express his or her inner geek. Demonstrations of sexism, racism, classism, ableism, ageism, sizeism, homophobia, transphobia, or other forms of hate speech will not be tolerated. Offensive remarks regarding rape or violence will also not be tolerated. Our goal at Minerva is to help foster a community of support and mutual respect. Any comments that oppose this goal will face the wrath of Thor’s ban hammer. He doesn’t take discrimination lightly either.
- Comments that include unnecessary profanity will be deleted. We applaud passionate, engrossing conversations. We care about our fandoms, and we know you do too! Feel free to duke it out in the comments, but be considerate of the necessity of your word choices. Some of us might be reading an article during a lunch break at work or at a school computer before class where profanity might be censored. Some profanity is allowed as long as it’s tastefully done and not directed toward anyone else. Don’t just be a Quick-Quotes Quill—put some thought behind your words!
- Comments that are deemed spam or purely promotional will be deleted. Relevant links to other websites are perfectly fine. If you start talking about a quick and easy five-minute detox pill in the middle of a Star Wars discussion though, then we’re probably going to delete it.
Basically, if you wouldn’t say it to Dame Maggie Smith, you shouldn’t say it here. Thank you for helping us foster a safe, welcoming, shameless place to geek out!
