This month on Nostalgia Myalgia, Olivia and I talked about Fruits Basket, which is a shoujo anime that aired in Japan in 2001 and in the United States in 2003. It’s based on a manga that finished up its run in 2006, but we mostly stuck to anime talk! For the uninitiated, Fruits Basket (or Furuba, as it’s called by fans), is the story of the Sohma family, which is cursed so that when they are hugged by the member of the opposite sex they turn into an animal from the Chinese zodiac, and their involvement with Tohru Honda, an absurdly cheerful orphan.
